The word information technology literally means the use of technology and science for the spread and communication of information and knowledge. But practically this compound terminology now a days refers to the knowledge of the use of computers in the fields of different branches of science and knowledge.
Infact, ours is an age of information technology. The invention of the computer in the 20th century has brought a great revolution in the world of knowledge,science and information. With the passage of time the scope of computer is increasing surprisingly. Computers are being used in every field of life. Now there are millions of people in the world who can use computer and understand its language. Even war strategies and techniques are planned and designed with the help of computers. Now books have been replaced by discs in libraries. All the twenty-six volumes of Encyclopedia Britannica can be presented in a few CD's. The concept of electronic books is not a strange one now.It's quite clear that no nation and country can survive without making progress in the field of information technology. This technology has changed this world into a global village. Distance has lost its meaning. Computers are now connecting different parts of world.

United States of America and Canada are at the top of the list.Unfortunately we are still lagging behind in this field but it is heartening to note that now, different institutions are trying to achieve a great success in this field in Pakistan.
